Treatment for Bleeding and Swollen Gums
What causes bleeding and swollen gums?
At Dental Health Centre we strive to ensure our patients oral health is of the highest standard. Bleeding gums or swollen gums are not normal and is most likely a sign of Gingivitis (the early stages of Gum Disease or Periodontal disease).
Swollen or bleeding gums indicate an infection, bringing more blood and bacteria fighting cells to the affected area causing the inflammation.
Often gum disease goes unnoticed as there is little pain to no pain associated with the early stages.
Treatment
At Dental Health Centre, we believe that prevention is more important than cure.
Through regular dental check-ups and clean–ups, along with establishing a good oral health routine (flossing and brushing twice a day), you will be able to minimize the chance of gum disease.
At Dental Health Centre, we first look at your saliva as it is a very important element in relation to dental health. If you are showing signs of early gum disease or wear on the teeth, a saliva ph strip test is used to see what is causing your saliva to be acidic. Most cases it is due to certain foods and drinks we consume.
Healthy eating, hydration, and good saliva are all main components of supporting healthy teeth and gums. For some individuals, such as patients with braces, we also recommend fluoride mouth rinse as they are more prone to the formation of plaque.
If left untreated
If signs of gingivitis are left untreated, severe and painful problems with deterioration may occur, such as the breakdown of tissue and of the bone that surrounds and supports your teeth eventually leading to a loss of teeth.
At Dental Health Centre, with every treatment, we focus on your health of today and for the future. We believe through regular 6-month dental check-ups, we are able to treat problems such as early onset gum disease and prevent more serious issues from developing.
